Peeling back the layers

I don’t eat onions but I peel them. Purpose and destiny are hot topics of exploration that my clients ask me about often with the particular topic of relationships running a very close second place. Stress seems to be on the rise far beyond the days when I romped in the yard jumping through a sprinkler, drinking from the hose or clamping on vintage metal roller skates, tightening them down with a key to my red high-top sneakers.

Listening to clients frustrations about life, love, and the economy has me reaching for more quiet time to meditate and practice Pranayama, the breathing exercises that come to us from Yoga. This is the support I need for myself to stay on top of peeling back my own layers. When was the last time you gave yourself permission to do this, to reveal the inner wisdom of what makes you feel happy like you did when you were a child? Being happy is your birthright. When you popped into this body on this turn of the wheel, you knew this to be true.

The choices you had bargained for before this birth when you won the lottery to rent a womb in your mother’s belly giving you access to this physical temple, have always been here with you. Once taking up residency you began unpacking your true nature which has been with you throughout all of your incarnations.

Navigation for the roadmap of life.

The game-board of life is abundant with twists and turns that slope in variety of angles decorated with sticky bait that tests our choices. There are indicators and signposts along the way as you excavate your onion self. Some layers when exposed can force tears down your cheeks. Let it rain. This helps to clear the noxious fumes.

One of the high points of using astrology as my preferred tool when coaching clients is that it gives me clear information so that I can help them navigate the treasure map of existence. Each natal chart—also called a birth chart—reveals qualities and potentials that time and again have inspired deep sighs of relief or the blurting of, “I thought so!” from the people I consult for.

I was a teacher of young children for a handful of years and back then I noticed that each little individual had fully formed personalities. They knew what they liked and had clear, concise points to make about what they did not like as I observed them. I noticed I could peg the types of jobs and roles they would play out as they grew.

I’ve peered beyond the papery exterior layers into the sweet core of my own allium bulb. At times I get spooked but in the long-run I accept it without fear. As a coach, I’m often asked to imagine what people’s professions or roles or dharma is. Dharma is your true nature and what I have learned from little children is that it’s already here. You brought it with you, yet somehow you might have gone astray. We have to take extra care and consideration with every choice we make because these require we take an action and all of this effects us. I take on the dismantling of these veneers with serious concentration and a great deal of care and compassion.

I recently had a young client tell me why she couldn’t stand the path of study that she was on even though on paper and through all of her teachers and guides, this was what everyone believed she was good at. That teen taught me that it is easy to make a mistake and bypass joy in our pursuit. What I want you to know is that it is okay to not fit comfortably into the perception box of others. You have every right to exercise and wield the sword of knowledge, using it to slash your own unique path through the jungle of others ideas.

Find me a person who has never had to pivot and then tell me how happy they really are. It’s okay if things don’t make sense. Chaos can find settling points while continuing to cause disruption. Keep asking questions and never stopped digging up new onions and then beginning the peeling process once again.
